My most used Windows shortcuts (I use Windows 8.1)

File explorer

  • To start a new app -> Windows key + Start typing the name of the app
  • Open This PC/File explorer -> Windows + E
  • Open a new window -> Ctrl + N
  • Close the active item/window -> Alt + F4 or Ctrl+W
  • Switch between active windows -> Windows key + Alt
  • To minimize the active window -> Windows key + Down arrow
  • To maximize the active window -> Windows key + Up arrow
  • Fix the active window left to the screen -> Windows key + Left arrow
  • Fix the active window right to the screen -> Windows key + Right arrow

File/Folder

  • Create a new folder -> Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Renaming a selected item -> F2
  • Open the Properties dialog box for the selected item -> Alt + Enter     
  • Cut any file/folder -> Ctrl + X
  • Copy any file/folder -> Ctrl + V
  • Paste any file/folder -> Ctrl + C
  • View the next folder -> Alt + Right arrow  
  • View the folder that the folder was in -> Alt + Up arrow  
  • View the previous folder -> Alt + Left arrow or BackSpace 

Microsoft word

  • Save the current file -> Ctrl + S
  • Increase the font size -> Ctrl + ]
  • Decrease the font size -> Ctrl + [

Move the cursor to

  • The beginning of the next word -> Ctrl + Right arrow
  • The beginning of the previous word -> Ctrl + Left arrow
  • The beginning of the next paragraph -> Ctrl + Down arrow
  • The beginning of the previous paragraph -> Ctrl + Up arrow
  • Select a block of text -> Ctrl + Shift with an arrow key

Print Screen

  • Take the whole screen sort -> Press PrtScr button then Paste the image
  • Take a screen sort of the active window -> PrtScr + Alt then Paste the image
  • Whole screen sort and save it to the picture folder -> Windows key + PrtScr

Browser (Chrome)

  • Create new tab -> Ctrl + T
  • Close the active tab -> Ctrl + W
  • Switch between the tabs -> Ctrl + Tab
  • Go backward -> Alt + Left arrow
  • Go forward -> Alt + Right arrow
  • Open the link to a new tab -> Ctrl + Click on the link
  • Open the link to a new window -> Shift + Click on the link
  • Zoom in -> Ctrl + +
  • Zoom out -> Ctrl + -
  • Full Screen -> F11

Miscellaneous

  • Lock the pc -> Windows key + L
  • Display or hide the desktop -> Windows key + D
  • Task Manager -> Ctrl + Shift + Esc
